Asbestos CancerIf you are a veteran and you have developed asbestos cancer through your exposure to asbestos in the military service, you have a right to VA benefits. Asbestos cancer can come in many forms. The most common form of asbestos related cancer is small cell carcinoma (lung cancer). Most people do not realize that in combination with smoking, asbestos exposure makes a person 10-13 times more likely to develop lung cancer. As such, you may be able to obtain VA benefits even though you attribute your lung cancer to years of smoking. A second rarer form of asbestos cancer is mesothelioma. This type of cancer is caused almost exclusively from asbestos exposure. Veterans with mesothelioma are entitled to maximum benefits. For both of these cancers, the latency period from the time of exposure until the development of the disease can be many decades. Veterans who have served in World War II, Korea, Vietnam or other more recent conflicts are only now starting to exhibit symptoms of these diseases. At Veterans Assistance Network, we take special pride in ensuring that all veterans who have been diagnosed with asbestos cancer get the top treatment available to them. That is why we make sure that the VA treats each veteran with the respect and dignity that they deserve. We have experience navigating asbestos cancer related claims through the VA system and we look forward to putting our experience to work for you. Remember, our motto at Veterans Assistance Network is that you are not alone. We welcome all veterans to call us toll free to discuss their questions about asbestos cancer and VA filings. Our service is 100% free and our friendly group of volunteer veterans are standing by to help. If you feel more comfortable filling out a form, a volunteer veteran experienced in asbestos cancer filings will contact you shortly. Together, we will overcome.
